Welcome To The Sharper Edge Landscaping
A family owned and operated lawn care & landscape company, The Sharper Edge, Inc. has been growing and perfecting our landscaping services and quality since 1999. Here, we strive to create cohesive landscapes that effectively complement our Northeast Wisconsin seasons. Our landscaping team enjoys working with our customers making the process from design, to construction, to yearly maintenance easy while keeping in mind the importance of budgeting and never compromising the dreams of our clients.
History of The Sharper Edge Landscaping
The Sharper Edge, Inc. was founded in 1999 and began as a mowing, maintenance and snow removal company serving multi-family apartment complexes and commercial properties. Shortly after, in the spring of 2000, a Softscape Installation team was added. In 2003 we added Hardscape design and installation to our team. From 2003 to the present Sharper Edge Landscaping has added and perfected our system of installing turf lawns with a combination of drill seeding and hydromat. We introduced our Fertilization division named Sharper Edge Lawn Care, formally known as Lawn Pride of Wisconsin, in 2009.
The Landscaping Design Process
A call to our office begins your landscaping project. At that time you will talk to one of our estimators/designers or we will contact you to discuss your landscaping project. Depending on the scope of your project will determine the next step. Typically we will want to meet with the homeowner(s) at their site so we may take measurements, pictures, discuss your likes and dislikes, styles and other specifics of the landscaping project. To advance to the design / estimate phase, we do require a down payment. This down payment will be kept as a non-refundable retainer fee for the landscaping project. If you move forward with our design / quote the retainer fee will be credited to your total cost of the project. If you decide not to use The Sharper Edge, Inc. to construct your project, your retainer fee will cover the cost of the design and the landscape design will be rightfully yours to keep. Upon down payment, we take your information and compose a custom design and estimate. Next, we present the design and estimate to you. At this time you will be able to look over the material and decide what elements you like and what you may want to change. Normally, changes will need to be made as we want to make sure that your project is exactly how you imagined it. We revise the design and estimate, have a second meeting and finalize a contract. Some projects will need multiple revisions and meetings but that is all part of the landscaping process. Once a contract has been signed, we do require payment of 50% of the total contract to be placed on the construction schedule and discuss the construction phase.
The Landscaping Construction Phase
Once the landscape design has been finalized by the client, 50% of contract price is collected, the designers can then schedule the construction. Each client should know that landscaping projects in Wisconsin are at the mercy of our unpredictable weather and scheduling changes do occur. It is our goal to begin and complete every project on time. If your project includes a patio, retaining wall or an outdoor living space then that is where the project will start. Most projects are required to have utilities marked before any construction can begin. Once this step has been addressed the hardscape phase begins with excavation of the site, removing materials, adding a foundation and then building the structure. After the hardscape phase is completed the softscape phase will begin. The softscape phase, which includes the installation of plants, beds, and lawn, will begin with grading around the home and around the hardscape structure. Planting beds will be installed at this time along with plant material, edging and mulch or stone. If required, irrigation will be installed once the grade has been set. Once irrigation is completed the lawn can be installed. We encourage the homeowner to be on site during the construction phase so that minor changes can be made if requested. Any changes to the signed contract will require a change order and additional cost to the signed contract. Cleanup is done at the end of every day and at completion.
After construction is completed we like to schedule a “Final Walkthrough” at your site. At this time the designer and client will meet and walk through the project, and if necessary, produce a punch list of items that need to be addressed. If needed, we will send a crew out to the site to complete the punch list. Maintenance of the newly landscaped property will also be discussed at this time and we will answer any questions that the homeowner may have. Final payment on the remaining balance of the contract will be due at this time along with any change orders.
